Data Explainer: Ongoing Collection, Investigation and Verification
The data presented here is part of a live and evolving effort to document incidents related to the 2024 July Uprising in Bangladesh. It includes information on individuals reported as killed and injured, and aims to contribute to truth-recovery, public memory, and accountability efforts.
Sources of Data
Our records are compiled from a combination of:
• Open-source intelligence (OSINT) such as media reports, social media content, and video evidence
• Hospital and civil registry data
• Testimonies from victims’ families, witnesses, and frontline responders
• Partner organizations and civil society archives
Verification Process
We follow a layered verification process before publishing each record:
1. Initial Submission: Reports are collected through monitored channels or extracted from public sources.
2. Cross-Checking: Information is compared across multiple independent sources to ensure consistency.
3. Triangulation: Visual, documentary, and testimonial evidence are reviewed together.
4. Status Classification: Each record is marked as Verified, Partially Verified, or Unverified depending on the strength of corroborating evidence.
5. Ongoing Updates: New evidence may lead to updates, reclassification, or removal of records.
