On 5 August 2024, 20-year-old Mohammad Riddoy was killed by police officers in Gazipur amid post-resignation protests. The investigation reconstructs this killing through a digital film composed of 33 verified video files, using advanced forensic techniques and multiple sources to piece together the timeline and verify the location and identities involved.

The incident took place near Shareef General Hospital, close to Konabari Police Station. Protests intensified following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at 3:25 PM, with large crowds marching on Kashimpur Road. Protesters overturned and set fire to a police van at 4:03 PM, prompting riot police to gather and prepare for dispersal. By 4:55 PM, videos show officers firing live rounds and chasing fleeing demonstrators near the “Nurjahan Mohila Madrasa” alley.

At 5:21 PM, Riddoy was captured by officers in that alley. Footage clearly shows him in a black T-shirt and red shorts, surrounded by several police personnel. At 5:23 PM, Constable Akram Hossain of the Gazipur Industrial Police shot Riddoy in the back at close range with a shotgun, killing him. Blood pooled beneath his body and a pellet shell was visible on the ground. Signs of movement after the shot suggest Riddoy may still have been alive. Within minutes, six officers dragged his body away, leaving a visible trail of blood.

No additional footage of Riddoy’s body has emerged since. His family states that police denied knowledge of his death and did not return his body, and his name remains missing from the official list of those killed.

Digital forensic methods used include frame-by-frame analysis, geolocation using landmarks like Shareef General Hospital and “SHAH Cement” shop shutter, slow-motion review, crowd estimation, and audio analysis of gunshots and bystander reactions. Device metadata supported temporal verification of video files.
Media corroboration came from sources such as Prothom Alo, The Business Standard, and Dhaka Tribune, which confirmed the arrest and legal proceedings against Akram Hossain. Additional reporting from Jamuna TV, Somoy News, and YouTube footage aligned with visual evidence gathered.
